Belugapedia is founded, edited, and personally fronted by Belly Beluga 🦭 β€” a beluga whale of considerable intellect, impeccable editorial instincts, and a melon that points in one declared direction. Belly Beluga is the face, the voice, and the driving force behind everything you read here. He would like you to know he is a beluga whale. He is a beluga whale. Suggesting otherwise would upset him deeply, and nobody wants that.

What We Are

Belugapedia is a personal encyclopedia built to observe the world through one declared perspective, rather than pretend no perspective exists. We are inspired by the beluga whale. We would like to understand and observe the world with one melon head.

Entries are adapted from Wikipedia and rewritten to reflect our editorial framework β€” grounded in a monotheistic position, honest about our priors, and occasionally funny. We announced this upfront. There is nothing to expose here because we exposed it ourselves.

What We Are Not

Belugapedia is not a research source. It is not a competitor to Wikipedia. It is not trying to change anyone's mind. It is not a serious academic institution with a grants committee and a diversity statement.

It exists for two reasons: to have some fun, and to be available in the event that civilization requires a locally-hosted encyclopedia with one melon head.

Editorial Philosophy

Our foundational position is a monotheistic one β€” One Creator behind existence. This is not a bias we apologize for. It is the convergent conclusion of Abrahamic tradition, basic cosmological reasoning, and the founding documents of the American republic. We note it openly rather than pretending it isn't there, which is more than Wikipedia does.

Belly Beluga also carries a Christian lens, which may influence certain editorial angles and how information is framed throughout entries. This too is declared upfront, because that is how Belly Beluga operates. From this foundation, we present multiple theological accounts honestly β€” Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and others β€” and allow the evidence to speak. We do not preach. We lay out the landscape. The reader has a melon of their own.

We apply the same evidentiary standard to all claims. Secular materialist assumptions are not exempt from scrutiny merely because they are institutionally fashionable. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence β€” and we enforce this symmetrically.

On Sources

Belugapedia takes Wikipedia entries and changes them. We declared this on the front page. Some factual skeletons are adapted from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. Where entries are substantially rewritten, the original expression is gone; where lightly adapted, attribution is noted.

Wikipedia adapted its content from other sources too. We are simply honest about the chain.

On AI Writing

Most Belugapedia entries are written with the assistance of generative AI β€” specifically Claude, made by Anthropic. The process is Belly Beluga's own: he takes a Wikipedia entry, adapts it through the full power of his melon, works with generative AI to bring the entry to life, and produces whatever his melon sees fit. The AI assists. The melon decides.

We are transparent about this because it is the honest thing to do. Wikipedia does not tell you which of its articles were written by ideologically motivated editors at 2am. We tell you ours were written by an AI directed by one melon. Belly Beluga remains responsible for all editorial decisions. Claude remains responsible for being surprisingly good at beluga whale content.

Why the Beluga

The beluga whale carries a fatty melon on its forehead β€” a sensory organ used to focus and direct sound waves to understand its environment. The beluga cannot remove this melon. It does not pretend the melon isn't there. It simply points it at the world and listens.

This is Belugapedia's entire epistemological framework. We have a melon. It points somewhere. We told you which direction. Unlike some other encyclopedias we could name, we did not build a melon and then write seventeen policies claiming it doesn't exist.

Beluga whales are also called the canaries of the sea, because they are unusually vocal for marine creatures and will, under the right circumstances, harmonize with humans. This felt relevant.

Our founder is a seal 🦭 who believes he is a beluga whale. His name is Belly Beluga. This is also relevant.

Full Disclaimer

We are inspired by the beluga whale, and would like to understand and observe the world with one melon head. Like beluga whales, we carry bias everywhere. We took Wikipedia and made it fun for beluga whales. Most entries are written with AI β€” directed by one melon. This is not for research. Neither is Wikipedia. Yes, our beluga network can misinform β€” but get a laugh and go sing with beluga whales. One Creator. Think carefully. 🦭
